Service Above Self

  Avenues of Service     Program Chairs

Members of the Huntington Rotary Club come from all walks of business and professional life.  Our motto is “Service Above Self.”  We serve the Huntington community and beyond.

Our Club belongs to Rotary International (RI), a global organization that started in 1905.  RI serves humanity and promotes world peace and understanding.  Huntington’s Rotary Club began in 1917 and was the 300th club to join Rotary.  Today there are more than 32,000 Rotary clubs worldwide, with 1.2 million members.

Huntington Rotarians have a long and proud legacy of placing “Service Above Self.”  Our projects include:

  • Global Polio Eradication—Huntington Rotary pioneered RI’s quest to rid the world of polio.  Our members went to Sierra Leone in the early 1980s to vaccinate children and build hospitals and Kathy Branham was involved in a District International Project.  Today, 100% of the Club is behind Rotary’s goal of a polio-free world.

  • Community Service Projects—a community service project includes donating time and funds: The Wine Tasting Event, Strawberry Feed and the Annual Golf Outing are a part of our major fund raising opportunities.

  • Huntington County Baseball—sponsoring a team each year

  • Lincoln School First Grade Buddy Program—a program we began that has spread to other Huntington service clubs.

  • Heritage Days Strawberry Feed—an important annual fundraiser to support our service projects.

  • Community Awards—over the years we’ve donated funds to dozens of local non-profit groups.

  • High School Scholarships— about $2000 a year in scholarships are awarded each year.

  • National Honor Society Luncheon—an annual tradition for high school seniors since the 1920s.

  • Teacher and 4-H Leader of the Year Awards—honoring the best of those who guide our children.

  • Junior Rotarians—recognizing service-oriented students from Huntington North High School and Huntington University.

  • Salvation Army Bell Ringing—helping members and the community pitch in at Christmas.

  • Foreign Exchange Students and Group Study Exchange—making the world a smaller place through student exchanges and adult group study trips.

  • Service Above Self Days—usually three to four a year doing special projects to benefit our club/community.

  • Twin Club—our club established a Twin Club relationship with the Rotary Club of Holroyd, in New South Wales, Australia as part of the Rotary International Centennial celebration. We continue to work with Holroyd on projects.

  • In addition, every Huntington Rotary member serves the community through our individual roles with civic, charitable and church organizations, government or business boards, or school committees.

  • Our club has won the District Literacy Award. Your dedication to improving literacy within our community is to be commended. Next year we will be adding activities aimed at improving literacy around the world.

  • RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards)—Rotary's training program for young leaders, emphasizes leadership, citizenship, and personal growth. Each year our club sends two HNHS students to RYLA.
